When President Barack Obama and Michelle Obama landed in Saudi Arabia, all eyes were on the first lady's ensemble.
What do you wear to meet the leader of a country known for its oppression of women?
The first lady chose a fairly conservative outfit with loose sleeves that covered her from neck to toe. She wore a colorful long jacket with sleeves over a bright blue blouse and long black pants, forgoing the chance to show off her perfectly buffed arms.
But it was her uncovered hair and the lack of a head scarf that drew scrutiny. Saudi women are required to cover their heads in public, although it is not required of visitors.
Politico reported that Saudi Arabians on Twitter criticized the first lady for forgoing this custom, using hashtags such as "Michelle_Obama_Immodest."
Meanwhile, DailyMail.com said the first lady's expressions conveyed unhappiness at having to visit the country.
President Obama cut short his trip to India to visit Saudi Arabia to pay his respects to the royal family on the recent death of the nation's leader, King Abdullah. House minority leader Nancy Pelosi also joined the delegation - without a head scarf.
