William Shatner to appear at Shore Leave show in Hunt Valley

Captain Kirk himself will beam into Baltimore this summer to appear at the Shore Leave science fiction convention in Hunt Valley, according to the event's website.

The 35th annual convention will offer writing workshops, panel discussions, role playing games and a chance to meet authors and stars.

Shatner, who has been known to turn down much bigger gigs, is a major score -- particularly for a convention founded by folks brought together by a love of "Star Trek."

He will appear Aug. 3.

If fans want his autograph, or to take a picture with Shatner, they'll have to open their wallets. Photo ops will go for $80. And that's in addition to the price of registration ($60 Saturday only; $85 all weekend) and the extra fee ($20) for Shatner's speech.

In addition to his role on "Star Trek," Shatner has starred in "Boston Legal," "TJ Hooker" and "3rd Rock From the Sun." Of course, there are also those Priceline commercials.

Amanda Tapping from "Supernatural" and Julie Caitlin Brown from "Babylon 5" are also set to appear.
