Deborah Stanko has a very clear vision of her personal style. "Classically trendy. I like to have a few key designer pieces, and then I will pair them with a few inexpensive trendy pieces from season to season. I don't go too far into trendy." This 29-year-old Kimberly-Clark medical sales representative had recently moved to Virginia when we "Glimpsed" her at a private party at Roy's Restaurant.
The look: Beaded charcoal rayon tunic. Joe's Jeans black leggings. Black snakeskin patterned leather Rafe pumps. Black cotton LaRok jacket with ruffle trim. Black satin Fendi shoulder bag.
Where it came from: She bought the tunic at Forever 21. Her leggings came from the National Jean Company. The pumps and jacket were Loehmann's finds. The handbag was her first designer bag purchase - at Bloomingdale's about 10 years ago.
How she shops: "I shop weekly [for bargains]. ... I constantly shop at Loehmann's. Loehmann's is something you have to [check out] weekly because they change their racks weekly - especially their designer department. ... I get all my designer denim at Gilt.com and RueLaLa.com ... I shop at Forever 21 online for my inexpensive, trendy pieces. ... I'm picky about what fabrics I buy [from Forever 21]. ... By shopping online, I can look at the fabric description. ... I'll do the seasonal sales at Saks and Bloomingdale's. I'll buy labels there, but I won't shop there as frequently."
Less is more: "My mom always taught me less is more. So, you're never going to see me over-accessorizing. If I'm wearing my Stuart Weitzman [ shoes] that are patterned, then you're not going to see me with a lot of jewelry on because my shoes are going to do the talking. If I'm carrying a silver clutch, I'm probably just going to have a long silver necklace and simple pair of earrings. ... Overaccessorizing can be tragic. It takes away from the clothes, your face, your hair. It can steal from your natural beauty."
She's all for ' dress'-ing up: "I'm a girly girl. So, I'm always going to choose a dress or skirt over wearing jeans. I remember one time in college, I put a ban on jeans, and I went six straight months without wearing denim. My friends thought I was crazy. I was in West Virginia, and it was the middle of winter."
Her fashion motto: "I always say it's better to be overdressed than underdressed. You never want to be the least dressed-up. ..."
