Student, 20, dies in single-car crash in Pennsylvania

A Penn State student and Baltimore native died Monday after her car stuck a tree, according to the student newspaper in State College, Pa.

State Police said that Jamie Haney, 20, was driving eastbound on Route 322 when her Chevrolet Malibu went off the road and struck a tree in the median. Police arrived at the scene of the accident around 2:40 p.m. and pronounced her dead at the scene.

According to a posting on Haney's Facebook page, the 2007 graduate of Kenwood High School was driving home to Baltimore. "I have court at 9 a.m. back home tomorrow. I'll be back to PSU tomorrow," she wrote in a posting at 2:03 p.m. Monday.

Police said Haney was the only person in the car and was wearing her seat belt at the time of the accident, The Daily Collegian reported. According to the paper, Haney was a junior at Penn State, majoring in biobehavioral health.

Last week, Kenwood High School freshman Anna Marie Stickel was struck and killed by an Amtrak train as she and a friend walked along a stretch of track in Middle River.
