Her story: Kelli Raia, 26, grew up in Silver Spring. She is a social worker at a retirement community in Catonsville. Her mother, Jeanne, is a stained-glass artist and owns Glimmerglass Stained Glass. Her father, Joe, is a business consultant.
His story: Adam Dickson, 27, grew up in Parkville. He works in finance for a retirement community in Silver Spring. His mother, Patricia, owns a vending business and his father, David, is a consultant.
Their story: Kelli and Adam met during the big snowstorms in February 2010. At the time, they were working at the same retirement community and were snowed in at work for several nights. A few months later, they began dating after Adam moved to a different job.
"I never thought I'd meet somebody at work, but life works in mysterious ways," says Kelli.
The proposal: Adam proposed on Dec. 23, 2011 after the couple went to get a drink in Federal Hill after work.
"We were sitting around talking, and all of a sudden, he's down on one knee with a ring," says Kelli. "It shocked me because I didn't even know he'd been looking at rings. It was a very pleasant early Christmas present."
Adam had selected a Tacori princess-cut diamond solitaire set in a channel band from Nelson Coleman Jewelers in Towson.
The venue: About 200 guests attended the ceremony at St. Ignatius Roman Catholic Church in Mount Vernon.
"It's absolutely beautiful and it's a Jesuit church," says Kelli. "I went to a Jesuit college in Cincinnati, and both of my brothers went to Jesuit high schools, so I loved the Jesuit ties."
Her dress: Kelli wore a sweetheart strapless A-line lace gown by Allure Bridals from Bridals by Elena in Gambrills with jewelry from Clairesparkles Bridal Jewelry on Etsy and ivory shoes from David's Bridal.
Bridesmaids' dresses: The bridesmaids wore ice-blue Alfred Angelo dresses to fit the winter theme. The flower girl wore an ivory dress from OliviaKate Couture on Etsy.
Men's apparel: Adam wore a traditional black tuxedo with an ivory vest and tie, while the groomsmen wore black tuxedos from Jos. A. Bank.
Flowers: Flowers by Michael in Glen Arm used a mix of hydrangeas, off-white roses, blue delphinium, crystallized leaves and some dusty miller for a "wintry feel," according to Kelli.
Reception: The reception took place at the Belvedere Hotel in Mount Vernon.
"It was the first place we looked at and we just fell in love with it," says Kelli. "It felt very old-school Baltimore. The ballrooms were stunning, and the staff was just fabulous to work with."
Music: DJ Will Wonder, of Effects Entertainment, played '80s and '90s pop, as well as current hits. The couple's first dance was to "Everything" by Michael Buble.
Dessert: The couple had a cannoli tower from Golden Cannoli in Somerville, Mass., and a spicy rum and coconut cake, also known as Nest of Pirates, from Baltimore Cakery for their sweetheart cake. Also included on the dessert table were Italian tricolor cookies and homemade biscotti.
"I love cannoli. I'm Italian and I grew up eating them," Kelli says. "When I was little, I wanted a cannoli tower when I got married."
Special touch: The centerpieces were a mixture of floral arrangements and stained-glass light boxes designed by Kelli's mom.
"For the cocktail hour, she'd made some stained-glass candle votives," says Kelli. "It was nice to have that personal touch and know that she put all that work into making my wedding beautiful."
