His story: Michael Cameron Lingle, 45, was born in Caracas, Venezuela, while his parents were serving in the Peace Corps, and raised in Columbus, Ohio, and Princeton, N.J. He works as an entrepreneur, startup consultant and DJ. His father, John Hunter Lingle, lives in Davidson, N.C. His mother, Kathleen Lingle Serrapede, lives in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Their story: Katy and Mike met on Aug. 3, 2013, when Mike was working as a DJ at her friend's birthday party. Katy came up to the DJ booth and requested a Whitney Houston song. Mike rolled his eyes but agreed to play it for her. As Katy walked away, Mike said, he realized that he wanted to continue talking to her.
"I immediately thought Mike was very handsome but was more impressed by how kind and open he was," Katy said.
Katy made Mike wait for a couple of songs, but she came back to talk to him. They went on their first date the next afternoon.
"He was easy to talk to, very witty, and made me smile," she said.
The couple lives in Miami Beach.
The proposal: Mike proposed to Katy on May 1, 2015.
Mike took Katy to a restaurant on the water in the town of Islamorada in the Florida Keys. The two walked out to a dock to watch the sun go down. It was the perfect setting for Katy, who loves sunsets.
He then dropped to one knee and proposed.
He popped back up to his feet so quickly, he realized that he hadn't received an answer from Katy — so he got back down on one knee.
She said yes. But then she asked him to propose again because she was so excited, her mind went blank and she couldn't remember the initial proposal.
So Mike got back down on one knee a third time and repeated the whole thing — and then proposed a fourth time for "good measure."
Venue: About 130 people attended the wedding, reception and morning-after brunch in the Cobalt Ballroom of the Four Seasons Hotel Baltimore. The rehearsal dinner and welcome party were held at the Rusty Scupper in the Inner Harbor.
Flowers and decor: Radebaugh Florists of Towson provided the flowers, which were pastel gold, silver, pale yellow, white and beige.
Her dress: Katy wore a crepe sheath with a low back and a V-neck in ivory white, accented with a rhinestone-adorned crepe belt by Essense of Australia from Bellissima Bridal in Miami.
The matron of honor wore a long biscotti-colored dress with a deep V-neck and draped back, also from Bellissima Bridal.
Men's attire: Mike wore a black tuxedo by Calvin Klein and shirt by Eton from Macy's. Both the groom and the best man wore biscotti-colored bow ties and mother-of-pearl cufflinks and studs.
Music: Music was provided by DJs Eric "Sir Shorty" Meyerson and Stephen "DJ Huggy Bear" Barr, both from New York City. The first song was the Jasmine Thompson cover of "Ain't Nobody (Loves Me Better)" mashed up with the original version by Chaka Khan.
Food and dessert: The Four Seasons Hotel catered the reception. Guests enjoyed a variety of items, including lobster BLTs on plantains and crispy bacon-wrapped scallops; a salad of cucumber-wrapped organic mesclun greens and oven-dried roma tomatoes with hazelnut dressing; and an entree of grilled beef tenderloin with veal jus and jumbo lump Maryland crab cake, truffled potato puree, and roasted tri-color baby carrots.
Snickerdoodles Bakery made the three-tiered wedding cake with layers of chocolate and vanilla and raspberry and vanilla with buttercream icing. The Four Seasons served an ice cream sundae bar.
Favors: Guests received a variety of Maryland souvenirs, including custom crab mallets, crab-shaped cookies, Old Bay seasoning and recipes, and Berger cookies.
Special touches: The best man and the groom performed a cover of "I Want It That Way" by the Backstreet Boys. The couple honeymooned on the island of Ibiza off the coast of Spain.
