"I just saw him as a future classmate," she recalled.

They reconnected in the parking lot at Ithaca's freshman orientation and again when they ended up working on a television project together once school started. The two majored in television and film, so they wound up working on several projects together throughout college.

"He was funny. He was incredibly proactive," Rebecca said. "He was also a cutie."

Three weeks before the end of freshman year, Joe and Rebecca officially became a couple.

They moved to the Los Angeles area after their graduation in 2013 to pursue careers in the film industry. The couple currently live in Sherman Oaks, Calif.

The proposal: The proposal took place in July 2015 at Joe's favorite place — his family's vacation home on Lake Erie. He always planned to propose by the lake at sunset. So Joe took Rebecca and her family to join his family for a summer vacation at the lake.

Joe proposed while everyone was preparing for an evening bonfire. He spotted his opportunity when Rebecca was by herself on the beach; the rest of the family was sitting up on the hill by their house while Rebecca was by herself. He quickly changed, grabbed the ring from the house and came down to propose as the family looked on.

Rebecca recalled not being ready for the moment.

"I hadn't brushed my hair or taken off my jacket, so aesthetically I wasn't prepared," she said with a laugh. "I thought it might happen at some point that week, but not at that moment. I was taken off-guard. But I was excited."

Although their family members couldn't hear what Joe was saying to Rebecca, they knew she said yes when the couple kissed. The were greeted at the house with applause and Champagne.

Venue: About 160 people attended the wedding ceremony at St. John's Episcopal Church in Ellicott City. The reception was held at The Grand in downtown Baltimore.

Flowers and decor: The couple chose a purple and lavender palette with gold accents. Floral arrangements were designed by Ann's Garden.

Her dress: Rebecca wore an ivory La Soie Private Label lace gown with a keyhole back and crystal and pearl accents. She purchased the gown at La Soie Bridal in Pasadena, Calif. Her veil was custom made by Cindy Isenhour, a family friend.

Bridesmaids' dresses: Bridesmaids wore knee-length deep purple Ralph Lauren dresses. They carried bouquets of white roses with lavender accent flowers.

Men's attire: Joe and the groomsmen wore charcoal gray Vera Wang tuxedos from Men's Wearhouse. Joe wore a white tie; the groomsmen wore lavender ties that Joe picked out.

Music: Music was provided by The Blitz Band, a six-piece band from New Jersey. The couple's first dance was to "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman, from the movie "Toy Story."

Food and dessert: The Grand provided an array of appetizers, including chicken and apple crostini, hummus and pita chips, mini beef Wellington, brie and raspberry in phyllo, and an antipasto display. Dinner consisted of filet and grilled chicken breast with caramelized red onions, mashed potatoes, and green beans.

The four-tier wedding cake, designed by Artistic Desserts, consisted of Italian cream cake with Swiss raspberry and vanilla custard filling, chocolate ganache cake with chocolate mousse filling. Rebecca and Joe love cheesecake, so they also served a cheesecake sundae bar with a variety of toppings.

Special touches: Rebecca gave her bridesmaids purple and gold earrings, a gift that they wore during the ceremony and reception.

The couple honeymooned in Hawaii.
