Date: Sept. 26
Her story: Kaitlin "Kat" Yent, 26, was born in Baltimore but moved to Ireland when she was 8 and then to France at 14. She works as the managing editor of Live and Invest Overseas, a publishing company. Her parents, Kathleen Peddicord and Lief Simon, live in Panama.
His story: Harry Kalashian IV, 32, was born in Washington. He is the associate publisher for Live and Invest Overseas. His father, Harry Kalashian III, lives in Davidsonville. His mother, Brenda Rice, lives in Michigan.
Their story: The two met in July 2006 at a bar in Annapolis, where Harry was working as a bartender and Kat was a hostess. Kat had temporarily moved back to the U.S. to get her driver's license and was working in the bar to make some money.
"I had an immediate crush," Kat said. "He had Beatles hair, a goofy demeanor and a kind face. I was smitten."
The two live in Panama City.
The proposal: On an April day in 2014, the couple were in New York City. After a trip to the zoo to see tiger cubs, they walked through Central Park and stopped at a little stone bridge.
There, Harry got down on one knee in the rain and asked Kat to marry him.
"I was prepared. I knew it was coming but somehow was still in shock when he asked," Kat recalled. "My reaction was hysterical, uncontrollable laughter. For me, the moment lasted all of a second, but he said in his head it felt like multiple minutes kneeling without me answering."
Even after she said yes, Kat couldn't stop laughing.
"I think part of the shock was seeing the ring, which completely blew me off my feet," she said. "Its main stone is a giant ruby. I love red. And he designed it himself. I had no idea what to expect in the ring and it was definitely a wow moment for me. It couldn't have been more perfectly suited to me if I had designed it myself."
Venue: Thirty people attended the wedding ceremony in France, at Chateau de Villiers-le-Mahieu.
Seventy-five people attended the Baltimore reception at the Walters Art Museum.
Flowers and decor: The colors of the wedding were shades of gold. Flowers at the Baltimore reception included red dahlias, hydrangeas and lilies from Crimson & Clover Floral Design.
Her dress: Kat wore a Badgley Mischka column wedding dress from Francesca's Bridal in Overlea for the wedding in France. She wore a Jim Hjelm dress — also from Francesca's Bridal — for the reception in Baltimore.
Bridesmaids' attire: Bridesmaids wore Venetian gold dresses, also from Francesca's Bridal.
Men's attire: Harry wore a classic tuxedo by Ike Behar with cream paisley accessories. Groomsmen wore tuxes with champagne-colored paisley accessories.
Music: EventPro provided the DJ for the reception. The couple's first dance was to "Ain't That A Kick In The Head" by Dean Martin. The couple had been taking ballroom dance classes with each other for years, so their fox trot included lifts, spins, dips and lots of elaborate dancing riffs, Kat said.
Food and dessert: In France, the chateau catered the wedding. Appetizers included lobster ravioli with asparagus. Dinner was veal filet. The couple also served a three-part cake that looked like vintage suitcases. One part was devil's food, one red velvet, and one carrot. .
For the Baltimore reception, the couple hired Classic Catering. The menu, which was created by the couple, included their favorite foods from places they had visited around the world, including tomato and whiskey soup from Ireland; steak au poivre bites and escargot from France; truffle macaroni and cheese and crab claws from the U.S.; and ceviche from Panama. For dessert, they served bite-size pieces of Nutella crepes, tiramisu, cupcakes (in the flavors of their original wedding cake), and creme brulee.
Favors: At the France reception, the couple handed out tote bags that read "Oh the Places We Will Go" filled with goodies such as globe bottle stoppers, reusable cups, globe key chains, bottle openers with map graphics on them, and Panama hats. Table settings included postcards for the birthplace of each guest, a personalized small compass, and small treat boxes covered in world maps filled with personalized M&Ms.
Special touches: The couple spent three weeks in Malta for the honeymoon. Kat gave the bridesmaids handmade straw fans that she bought in Paraguay.
