Party: The Contemporary

A Saturday night snowstorm postponed The Contemporary's opening night, Bubble Over Green, but that was only a hiccup compared to what the arts organization has weathered in the past couple of years: closure of its Centre Street location, a financial overhaul and a return to its original concept of moving from location to location.

Monday night, about 400 supporters turned out at the old KAGRO building on North Avenue to mingle and celebrate The Contemporary's official reopening and take in the Victoria Fu audiovisual art installation that surrounded them.

"It's really amazing that, after 25 years, seeing The Contemporary back in its nomadic state," said George Ciscle, who founded The Contemporary in 1989. "To see all the people from all communities of Baltimore, it really makes me proud to be part of it."

Deana Haggag, The Contemporary's director, agreed.

"We're very, very, very happy," she said with a big grin.
