The LGBT-supportive It Gets Better Project will partner this month -- LGBT History Month -- with the Maryland-based Quist app to boost awareness of gay history.

The Berwyn Heights-based Quist, which offers those who download it daily history lessons on big LGBT moments of the past, announced the partnership on Tuesday.

The It Gets Better Project, which has recorded famous people telling LGBT youth struggling with their identity that hardships get easier with time, will be sharing Quist information via its social media accounts.

"Our projects are very aligned in trying to bring a message of hope to LGBT youth with a 21st-century approach," said Brett Peters, the It Gets Better Project's media program manager, in a statement.

Sarah Prager, 27, Quist's founder and director, said in a statement that Quist will also be launching a "2.0 version" this month that will include "a frequently requested keyword search feature to sort the 800 LGBTQ historical events in the app's database."

Prager said the app has been downloaded 13,000 times in 80 countries in its first nine weeks. The new search feature will "turn the app into a search engine for LGBTQ historical data," she said in a statement.

The app is free.
