Wine Find: 2011 Santa Julia Torrontes

2011 Santa Julia Torrontes (Handout photo)

From: Mendoza, Argentina

Price: $10

Serve with: Spicy seafood dishes, ceviche

For the next three weeks, Wine Find will do something different: highlight one extraordinary winery. At a recent tasting of Santa Julia wines, I found enough exceptional values to keep going for more than a month. Of the two fine whites I tasted, the torrontes — made from Argentina's premier white grape — was my favorite. It's an incredibly complex wine at this price, with a fascinating mix of melon, kiwi and lime flavors — punctuated with a zingy flavor that was three parts white pepper and one part cayenne. Really. It's that bold. Also recommended: 2010 Santa Julia Organica Chardonnay ($11).
