Wedded: Erika Winn and Richard Tyrone Braswell met by chance

HER STORY: Erika Winn, 47, was born and raised in Baltimore. She is a full-time student at the Community College of Baltimore County.


HIS STORY: Richard Tyrone Braswell, 51, was born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y. He's self-employed as an entrepreneur and investor. His parents, Roland Jr. and Rachel Braswell, live in Florida.

THEIR STORY: The couple met August 2006 at a Royal Farms store in Reisterstown.

Erika saw that Richard had on his work shirt and name tag — he worked for a property management company at the time — so she decided to track him down.

"A girlfriend of mine worked with him. I gave her my number to give to him," she said. "He was cute. He's six-foot-four. I saw him the minute I walked into the store. You can't miss him," she said.

The two talked by phone for the next two months. Then they went on their first date to their favorite restaurant, the now-closed Cacao Lane in Historic Ellicott City.

"I got a good vibe from him," she said. "He seemed to be a genuine person and an all-around great type of guy."

Erika soon learned that her initial instincts were right about Richard.

"I love Rick's big heart, compassion and love for everyone," she said, adding that he's a fantastic uncle to his two nieces.

"He has a very huge heart, and he's very genuine," she said.

The couple splits their time between Reisterstown and Fort Myers, Fla.

THE PROPOSAL: Rick proposed to Erika at their home in Florida on Jan. 4, 2016.

"It was very private. We're very private people," Erika said.

Rick got down on one knee and said: "We can do this. We're going to go forth with this if you say yes."

"He's such a good guy. It was so straight forth from the heart. It was so deep," she said.


Erika, who had been traveling back and forth from Baltimore to Florida, was overcome with emotion.

"My reaction was heartfelt because Rick said 'this isn't a home if you're not living here and we need to be under the same roof,'" she recalled.

"He always stuck by my side. He's an angel. Wherever he can help, whatever he can do, he's just awesome," she said.

VENUE: One hundred sixty-eight guests attended the wedding and reception at the Hunt Valley Country Club in Phoenix.

FLOWERS AND DECOR: The colors of the wedding were coral, cream and gold. Wicked Willow provided the flowers in ivory, blush and shades of peach and coral. Kate Bittrick of Elizabeth Bailey Weddings planned the wedding.

BRIDE'S DRESS: Erika wore a sweetheart lace dress in cream and nude by Sottero and Midgley from Elegant Touch Bridal.

BRIDESMAIDS' DRESS: Bridesmaids wore coral floor-length dresses by Watters Bridal from Betsy Robinson's Bridal Collection and Bella Bridesmaids.

MEN'S ATTIRE: Rick and the groomsmen wore beige suits from Men's Wearhouse in Owings Mills.

FOOD: Hunt Valley Country Club catered the wedding. The menu consisted of chicken marsala, stuffed flounder, fingerling potatoes and string beans.

CAKE AND DESSERT: The couple served an Amaretto raspberry and lemon mousse cake from SugarBakers.

MUSIC: DJ One Luv provided the music. The couple's first dance was to "So High" by John Legend.

FAVORS: The couple gave votive candle holders with votive candles that read: "Erika & Rick May 13, 2017."

SPECIAL TOUCHES: The couple went to Barbados for their honeymoon.
