Best new chef: Malcolm Mitchell

The “Food Network Star” contestant is taking gastropub food to a new level at Ryder’s, his first city endeavor. At The Kitchen Market, he has created a specialty food shop. His newest venture, Butchers Hill Society, focuses on boutique wines and brews with modern American food to match. The onetime chef to the likes of Mary J. Blige and Chris Tucker is now working on a brewery with food in Station North. Ryder’s, 1901 Gough St., Upper Fells Point, facebook.com/ryder1901; The Kitchen Market, 32 N.
