Best of Baltimore 2017

Best musician: Tate Kobang

No matter what happens, Tate Kobang — the 24-year-old Northeast Baltimore native born Josha Goods — is already a local rap legend, thanks to his 2015 hit “Bank Rolls (Remix),” a buoyant update on Tim Trees’ 2000 hit of the same name. Now, with a record deal with 300 Entertainment, he’s looking to capitalize on a growing national buzz. On mixtapes like last year’s “Since We’re Here” and the recently released “Silent Waves,” Tate Kobang proves he has the versatility — from sing-songy flows and hard-to-forget hooks to tough-talking, rapid-fire raps — to break through.
