UMBC won the nation free pizza. Now the campus is getting some too.

When UMBC pulled off a historic upset of top-seeded Virginia in the NCAA men’s basketball tournament earlier this month, it became clear the win could continue to pay dividends for the school in the future.

That has already come true — through the gift of free pizza.

If you’re a UMBC Athletics fan — or a Maryland native bending over backwards to bask in the Retrievers’ glow — it probably doesn’t get any better than Friday night. Except maybe if you add free pizza.

Little Caesars had already been forced to follow through with a promotion “if crazy things happen” — and they absolutely did. But now, it appears, the pizza chain wanted to throw some Retrievers a bone personally.

Reminding their followers that they “gave the rest of the country free pizza,” the official @UMBCAthletics Twitter account announced Wednesday morning that those on the Catonsville campus could enjoy even more spoils from their team’s brief yet magical March run.

Trucks offering the free pizza — “yes, trucks PLURAL,” the Twitter account emphasized — would be stationed at the circle behind the Retriever Activity Center next to the tennis courts.

The only catch?

The offer only applies while supplies last.
