Here's how to make Freddy's famous ribs from 'House of Cards'

YouTube chef recreates 'House of Cards' Southern delicacy — a Frank Underwood favorite — in video

“House of Cards” viewers have found many ways to indulge in their fandom — and in addition to binge-watching, they can now try binge-eating, thanks to one YouTuber.

Andrea Rea, the chef and filmmaker behind the “Binging with Babish” YouTube channel, has re-created the ribs made by Freddy’s BBQ Joint, the fictional restaurant that’s featured as Frank Underwood’s favorite place to eat in the Netflix show’s earlier seasons. (In real life, Freddy’s is actually a storefront in Waverly — one of the many Baltimore-area locations where “House of Cards” has filmed.)

Assuming Underwood’s appreciation for Southern-style barbecue stems from his roots in Gaffney, S.C., Rea — who also re-created Dev’s carbonara from Netflix’s “Master of None” and the “SpongeBob SquarePants” Krabby patty — re-creates the recipe with a hint of oak and hickory and uses a barbecue sauce with a vinegar and tomato sauce base, which he says is commonly used in northwestern South Carolina.

Underwood may be hard to satisfy, but Rea’s version of Freddy’s ribs and the simple video tutorial of the Southern recipe will likely make your mouth water.

And thankfully, the chef provides two ways of making the ribs — one with a smoker, and one without, which can be made “even from the confines of a fourth-story walkup.”
