Pennsylvania man spots, films whale along Ocean City fishing pier

Pennsylvania resident Troy Bickle says he spotted a whale near an Ocean City fishing pier Friday. He captured the sighting on video, which has now gone viral.

Pennsylvania resident Troy Bickle was on vacation, fishing on an Ocean City pier with his father and brother just before noon, when he noticed something strange.

"All of the sudden, I see ripples [in] the water … to the left of us. They were coming straight to the pier," said the 25-year-old.

When the group got a closer look, they noticed it was a whale, he said.

Bickle, of Lebanon, Pa., caught the moment on video, showing the whale hit the pier's supports before turning to its side and heading back out into sea.

Bickle posted the video to the "Ocean City Cool" Facebook page, which has now received more than 15,000 shares and more than 6,500 likes.

While he's no marine biologist, Bickle said the whale, which looked to be 15 to 20 feet in length, resembled a blue whale.

"It was pretty cool," he said, adding that it was his first time seeing a whale in the wild.

"It's not every day that you see a whale."
