Two successful graduates from the Baltimore School for the Arts teamed up for the July cover of Essence magazine.
Actress Jada Pinkett-Smith wore a one-shoulder tangerine-colored flounce dress from the spring 2017 collection of designer Christian Siriano, who's an Annapolis native. Celebrity stylist Law Roach dressed Pinkett-Smith for the cover.
Pinkett-Smith appeared on the cover — on stands Friday — with co-stars Queen Latifah, Regina Hall and Tiffany Haddish for their upcoming comedy "Girls Trip."
The film, directed by Malcolm D. Lee (The Best Man Holiday), comes out July 21.
This isn't the first time Pinkett-Smith has worn pieces from the "Project Runway" winner turned internationally-known designer whose gowns have been a constant sartorial hit during major red carpet events such as the Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards and Tony Awards. Pinikett-Smith sat front row with her mother, Adrienne Banfield-Jones, at the designer's spring collection show September 2014 in New York City.
"I love Jada. She is such a beautiful woman that is aging backwards and I think this cover is so stunning," Siriano wrote via email. "I have dressed her in the past and she has attended my show during fashion week but it is still exciting to see her in our new Spring collection on a cover looking amazing.
We are fellow alums of Baltimore school for the Arts and I love to see things come full circle."
