Baltimore actress Tiffany Boone to star in Emmy-winning Lena Waithe's Showtime series 'The Chi'

Baltimore actress Tiffany Boone will star in the anticipated Showtime series “The Chi,” which premieres this Sunday.

The show, created and executive produced by Chicago native and Emmy-award winning writer and actress Lena Waithe, tells the story of several Chicagoans whose lives intertwine and reveal some of the complications, dangers and beauty of living on the South Side.

Boone, a Baltimore native who has also starred in Kevin Bacon’s Fox TV series “The Following,” will star as a lead female character Jerricka, who faces obstacles as she and her boyfriend Brandon (“Straight Out of Compton” and “Mudbound” actor Jason Mitchell) attempt to open their own restaurant.

“The Chi” will also feature some other familiar and award-winning faces, including “The Wire” actress Sonja Sohn, who plays Laverne, Brandon’s mother who struggles with alcohol addiction and bad decisions, and Alex Hibbert, who made his screen debut in the Academy Award-winning film “Moonlight” and stars as Kevin in the series.

The show premieres 10 p.m. Sunday on Showtime, but the first episode is available now on YouTube.
