For the fourth time, the winner lost the popular vote. And for the first time, the president-elect would have no background in government or the military. And most pre-election polls showed Hillary Clinton, former secretary of state, U.S. senator, and first lady, ahead of Trump.

So for a lot of people, Trump's victory was shocking. But for many nonwhites, especially, it was frightening to witness a candidate who ran such a divisive campaign be elected president of the Unites States.

When exit polls showed Trump's main support came from white people without a college degree, it cut deep for black America, The Undefeated's Jesse Washington wrote.

"One sentiment rang loudest in many African-American hearts and minds: The election shows where we really stand. Now the truth is plain to see, many said — the truth about how an uncomfortable percentage of white people view the concerns and lives of their black fellow citizens."

Some summed up their opinions through memes.

Despite the anti-Trump protests that have spread across the country — including in Baltimore — and the #NotMyPresident movement, some people are quite content with the election outcome.

But since the election, it seems as though there's been an increasing amount of reports of racial attacks and microaggressions  including vandalism and "build that wall" chants.

However, there were a few post circulating online to give people hope.
