This Week in Black Twitter: The Obamas' last state dinner; mentally ill woman killed by N.Y. police

Welcome back to This Week in Black Twitter, your weekly digest of the happenings on Black Twitter and cultural conversations on the web. Topics will span the gamut — pop culture, politics, sports, lifestyles and everything in between. This week: Barack and Michelle Obama host their last state dinner, #DeborahDanner shot and killed by New York police and Kanye West goes on a rant about Jay-Z.

1. On Tuesday, Barack and Michelle Obama hosted their last state dinner as POTUS and FLOTUS, and for avid supporters, it may have prompted waterworks.

While welcoming the Italian prime minister, Obama acknowledged that the state dinner would be the last of his presidency. But he also added: "In the immortal words of a great Italian-American, Yogi Berra, 'it ain't over till it's over,'" according to NBC News.

There's just 90 more days until a new president will be inaugurated.

Chance the Rapper was in attendance.

And Frank Ocean, too.

Between "Southside With You" and Netflix's upcoming film "Barry," which is about the president's early years in college, you'll definitely get your Obama fix in preparation for his departure from office.

2. A mentally ill black woman was killed Tuesday by a New York police officer.

Responding to a call about a woman behaving erratically, officers encountered Deborah Danner, 66, at a Bronx apartment. During the interaction, Danner reportedly attempted to swing a baseball bat at Sgt. Hugh Barry. Even though Barry had a stun gun, he shot Danner two times, according to The New York Times.

Police commissioner James O'Neill acknowledged that protocol wasn't followed. "We do have policies and procedures for handling emotionally disturbed people, and it looks like that some of those procedures weren't followed," he said via CNN. "What is clear in this one instance is we failed."

In 2012, Danner wrote an essay titled "Living With Schizophrenia," which The Times obtained. "We are all aware of the all too frequent news stories about the mentally ill who come up against law enforcement instead of mental health professionals and end up dead," she wrote.

Do black women's deadly encounters with police get the same amount of attention online as black men's? One user doesn't think so.

3. Is Kanye being Kanye again? Or is this time different?

During a tour stop in Seattle, Kanye West took a moment to get some things off his chest about fellow rapper Jay-Z. Kanye complained about several things surrounding his relationship with Hov, such as their children never playing together and Tidal/Apple beef. But most notably, Kanye mentioned Jay didn't check in on his family in person after Kim Kardashian West was robbed in Paris, according to a fan video.

"Don't call me after the robbery and say, 'How you feelin'?' You wanna know how I'm feelin'? Come by the house. Bring the kids by the house  like we brothers," Kanye can be heard saying.
