The wildly popular podcast "Serial" will center Season 2 or 3 on the case of Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, according to Maxim magazine -- which attributes the scoop to anonymous sources.

The Hollywood Reporter cites no sources at all when it says it has confirmed that the program will base Season 2 on the saga of the soldier who left his post in Afghanistan, was held by the Taliban for five years and then was freed in exchange for five Taliban members imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay.

And "Serial" itself? Well, the folks who exhaustively revisited the investigation and prosecution of Adnan Syed in the murder of Hae Min Lee would just rather that you not poke around too much in their affairs.

"We'd very much appreciate if fellow journalists would give us some room and not feel the need to attempt to dig into and try to figure out what you think we might be doing, especially since we're actively reporting stories, and having a bunch of wild speculation out there makes our job reporting harder," Maxim quotes production manager Emily Condon as saying in an email to the lad mag. "Doesn't feel very menschy."

Per Maxim, she goes on to say that staff members are working concurrently on Seasons 2 and 3 as well as some other projects.

So, "Serial" fans, please preoccupy yourself with something else until the "Serial" folks are good and ready to show you their hand. Or until someone produces some named sources who can verify the story.
