A 30th anniversary screening of David Lynch's "Blue Velvet" will kick off a new revival series at Baltimore's landmark Senator Theatre.
The series will begin with an 8 p.m. screening on June 1, followed by encore screening at 1 p.m. June 6-7. The revival series' first week will also feature a screening of the original 1933 version of "King Kong" at 10 a.m. June 5.
All showings will be in the Senator's original 700-seat auditorium.
Other revival films scheduled for the Senator over the summer include the 3-D version of Alfred Hitchcock's "Dial M for Murder" (June 8, 12-14); Akira Kurosawa's "Ran" (June 15, 20-21); "Jaws" (June 29, July 4-5); "Lawrence of Arabia" (July 6, 11-12); John Waters' "Serial Mom" (July 13); the original 1968 "Planet of the Apes" (Aug. 3, 7-9); the first James Bond film, 1962's "Dr. No" (Aug. 17, 21-23); and Jean-Luc Godard's "Contempt" (Aug. 24, 28-30).
The series, which will present films on most days Saturday through Wednesday, will be curated by longtime Baltimore film mainstay John Standiford, who also curates the successful Saturday revival series at The Charles Theatre. Both theaters are operated by the father-daughter team of James "Buzz" Cusack and Kathleen Cusack Lyon.
