The American Visionary Art Museum's "Flicks From the Hill" free outdoor movie series will begin July 9 with "Jaws" and end seven weeks later with "The Wizard of Oz."
This marks the 11th year AVAM will sponsor the series, featuring family-friendly films that can be viewed from Federal Hill Park. As a bonus, admission to the museum, at 800 Key Highway, will be free from 5 p.m.-9 p.m. on movie nights. The films are scheduled to begin at 9 p.m.
After kicking off with "Jaws" on July 9, the series will feature Jim Carrey in "The Truman Show" (July 16), "Labyrinth" (July 23), director Tim Burton's "Big Fish" (July 30), Robert De Niro and Robin Williams in "Awakenings" (Aug. 6), "Searching for Bobby Fischer" (Aug. 13), Oscar-nominated "Beasts of the Southern Wild" (Aug. 20) and "The Wizard of Oz" (Aug. 27).
In the event of rain, screenings will be moved inside to the third floor of AVAM's Jim Rouse Visionary Center, located adjacent to the museum.
Prior to the film screenings, the museum has scheduled a series of events. These include a Flicks Premiere Party (July 16; tickets are $10-$15), Tour de Federal Hill Bike Ride #1 with Race Pace Bicycles (July 16, free), Zumba with Federal Hill Fitness (July 23, free), Fan Club Members Reception (July 30, free for AVAM members), Yoga Workshop with Charm City Yoga (Aug. 6, free), Tour de Federal Hill Bike Ride #2 with Race Pace Bicycles (Aug. 13, free), Fun Run with Charm City Run (Aug. 20, free), Shinier Happier Things Workshop with Bob Benson (Aug. 20, $35-$50) and Food Truck Night (Aug. 27, free).
