The other day, King, a Republican, was holding court in a telephone town hall meeting when someone asked about his opposition to animal rights. King replied, saying, "It's wrong to rate animals above human beings."
King then spoke of how it puzzles him that society is OK with letting people fight but dog-fighting is a crime.
King's exact words: "When the legislation that passed in the farm bill says that it's a federal crime to watch animals fight or to induce someone else to watch an animal fight, but it's not a federal crime to induce somebody to watch people fighting, there's something wrong with the priorities of people that think like that."
Charles, who is hosting a dinner in Baltimore to raise money for marriage equality, immediately got a few replies on Twitter.
Jana Mallo said: "Iowa is awesome. We're the home of Johnny Carson, Cloris Leachman, David Rabe, Donna Reed & Mary Beth Peil. Boo @SteveKingIA."
"You can continue to think of us as the Field of Dreams," Phillip Brogdon Tweeted, "because I can assure you that no one here agrees with @SteveKingIA."
