Nine-year-old Baltimore actor will debut film he directed at two festivals in April

Actor Anthony Michael Hobbs, 9, already has appeared in an Emmy nominated project for his theatrical work on the PBS special "The American Experience: The Abolitionist." Now, the Baltimore native wants to add more accolades to his resume.

The fourth-grader at Our Lady of Victory has added film director, producer and writer to his credits for his first short film, "One Nation," which will be screened at two film festivals in April.

The film will make its first appearance at the 2015 Alhambra Theatre Film Festival in Evansville, Ind., April 9–12, and then at the West Chester Film Festival in West Chester, Pa., April 24–26.

The film is about a boy and his five friends helpings soldiers who have returned home after fighting in the war, according to Kerri Moseley-Hobbs, Anthony's mother and manager, who said her son wasn't available to comment because he was in school.

"I'm really excited and I'm happy for him," she said. "He's really passionate about film and television. He's in his element."

The project took a little more than three months to write, direct, edit and produce, she said.

"He did everything on his own," she said, adding that Anthony wrote the script last August.

In addition to his role as a young Frederick Douglass in "The American Experience: The Abolitionist," Hobbs' acting and modeling credits include a role in the DreamWorks documentary "How to Find Your Dragon" and various national commercials for brands such as Norwegian Cruise Line, Toys "R" Us and Finish Line.
