It's moving time for the O'Malley family.
Outgoing Gov. Martin O'Malley and his family are moving out of the governor's mansion in Annapolis this week into a four-bedroom home in the Homeland section of North Baltimore.
The governor and his wife, Judge Katie Curran O'Malley, purchased the home in mid-December for $549,000, according to property records.
"I can tell you from the first time I met Katie, there were a couple things I was very clear about," Gov. O'Malley told reporters. "One of them was her desire one day to live again in Homeland. So we're going to do that. We've been up and back, as you can imagine … getting the floors ready and the right paint on the walls. We're very excited about that."
The house, which was built in 1928, looks onto Homeland Lakes and features nine foot ceilings, a stone fireplace and hardwood floors, according to the real estate site, Zillow.
Judge O'Malley's parents, former attorney general J. Joseph Curran Jr. and his wife, live nearby. For Judge O'Malley to remain on the bench in Baltimore District Court, she needs to maintain a residence in the city.
The family lived on Walther Avenue, in Northeast Baltimore, prior to O'Malley becoming governor in 2007.
In recent months, O'Malley has been visiting primary states and raising money for a possible presidential campaign. He has indiciated he'll decide sometime in early 2015 whether he will run.
A moving van has been parked in front of the governor's mansion all week. Maryland's new governor, Larry Hogan, is slated to take office next week.
