The man responsible for Westeros and some of TV's most mesmerizing carnage will be coming to Baltimore in May.
George R. R. Martin, whose "A Song of Ice and Fire" novels — as well as the HBO series, "Game of Thrones," derived from them — have made him the hottest thing in the fantasy/science fiction genre, will be the guest of honor at May's Balticon 50.
The sci-fi fan convention is set for May 27-30 at the Renaissance Baltimore Harborplace Hotel, 202 E. Pratt St. The full schedule has yet to be posted, but will include autograph sessions, panel discussions and many other fan-oriented events.
In honor of Balticon's 50th anniversary, all previous guests of honor have been invited to this year's convention. Among those who have accepted the invitation are John Varley, R.A. MacAvoy, Nancy Springer, Donald Kingsbury, Michael F. Flynn, Allen Steele, Harry Turtledove, Phil and Kaja Foglio, Sharon Lee and Steve Miller, Steve Barnes and Tananarive Due, Gene Wolfe, Larry Niven, Connie Willis, Charles Stross, Ben Bova, Jody Lynn Nye, Joe Haldeman and Jo Walton.
Registration for the Memorial Day weekend convention is now open, with memberships starting at $59-$70 for adults, $29-$35 for kids 6-12. For more information, check out the Balticon 50 webpage.
