Donald Trump has been known to make disparaging comments about mainstream media — particularly when it comes to election coverage — but Monday, the Republican presidential nominee may have been in different spirits.

During a meet-and-greet with supporters at The Boulevard Diner in Dundalk, Trump autographed the front page of an August copy of The Baltimore Sun for Edgemere gas station owner Carl Hobson, who was featured on the cover in a "Make America Great Again" hat.

Hobson was a part of Sun reporter John Fritze's story on Trump's stronghold in Baltimore County neighborhoods around Dundalk and Essex.

While that may have been a news story Trump could be pleased about, the candidate has been vocal at times about his distaste for the media throughout the campaign.

For example, in a stream of tweets on Aug. 14, Trump said mainstream media is "disgusting and corrupt," putting "false meaning" into his words and not properly covering his rallies.

Earlier this month, Trump criticized individual outlets on his Twitter, including the New York Times and CNN, who he said were "seriously failing" and "unwatchable," respectively.

Baltimore Sun reporters John Fritze and Pamela Wood contributed to this article.
