Maryland bride's 'certificate of purity' presented at wedding goes viral

A Maryland couple is making news for celebrating the bride's virginity.

At her wedding on Oct. 10, Brelyn Mya Freeman presented her father with a certificate stating that her hymen was still intact. The bride's husband, Timothy Freeman, also claimed to be a virgin.
Her Instagram post reads: "Another one of my favs! Dancing with my first love! I was able to present a certificate of purity to him signed by my doctor that my hymen was still intact. Also the covenant he gave me when I was 13. When you honor God, your life will automatically honor others! I love you daddy @drmikefreeman"

That post has received more than 3,000 shares. Similar posts touting her certificate of purity have also attracted thousands of likes and shares. It has been picked up by popular media outlets such as People Magazine, ABC News, Slate, BuzzfeedBossip and USA Today.

The story has also resulted in mixed feelings. While there has been plenty of support for the bride. There has also been a fair share of controversy over the lengths women should go to in order to prove their virginity.

Freeman's Instagram's bio reads: "Jesus Lover, Wife to @timbowmanjr, Family Obsessed, Boutique Owner @breezyzboutique, Preacher of Purity."

The couple's wedding website even contains a link to a "Purity Store," which sells merchandise that promotes virginity.
