Baltimore promotions website mistakenly lists Smashing Pumpkins as New Year's Eve performer

Oops.

The Baltimore Office of Promotion and the Arts listed the name of the wrong band on its website trumpeting: "New Year's Eve Spectacular" events at the Bicentennial Plaza at the Inner Harbor.

As of 7 p.m. on New Year's Eve, the site didn't merely announce that the Smashing Pumpkins, the alt rock band fronted by Billy Corgan, would be performing at 9 p.m. -- but that band would be performing for FREE.

That would have been a feather in BOPA's cap -- but in reality, the group that took the stage was Baltimore's own Smashing Pilots, a '90s cover band. (BOPA's website later was changed to reflect the correct information.)
The Pumpkins most recently played in Baltimore in 2010, when they performed at Rams Head Live. Tickets for that show went for $45 plus tax.
