Blizzard subjects WYPR personality, husband to horror of additional days in paradise

When WYPR on-air personality Diane Finlayson and her husband, Maarten Calon, return from their island vacation in the Caribbean on Tuesday, they will be met by an unusual welcome committee – a friend armed with boots, gloves, brooms and a heavy-duty snow shovel.

Calon and Finlayson had been scheduled to return to Baltimore from Curacao on Saturday on American Airlines. Once they finally land, they'll need those supplies just to make their way home.

"The worst of it is that I will have to find and dig out the car at the airport on Tuesday," Calon wrote in an email. "Our one friend willing to move the car to garage parking can't do it today."

Not that he's complaining too much about missing two days of work, and what is shaping up to be the great Baltimore blizzard.

"The hotel will keep us two more days and is a lovely place," he wrote. "The weather is fabulous. Now that arrangements have been made, we're fine with it."
