Baltimore named one of best cities in U.S. for creatives by Thrillist

New York and L.A. may have thriving art scenes, but if you're looking to live out your artistic dreams at a fraction of the cost, Charm City is the place to be, according to Thrillist. (Plus, there are crab cakes.)

The entertainment and lifestyle website recently named Baltimore one of "the best American cities for creatives" that aren't L.A., New York or San Francisco. Baltimore joined the likes of Nashville, Austin, New Orleans and Charleston as cities that take the "struggling" out of "struggling artist."

"The music and art scene hold their own, especially during Artscape, the largest free arts festival in the country," the article noted of Baltimore, also highlighting the nightlife in Mount Vernon and Fells Point and everyday gems  like Lexington Market, which is one of the oldest markets in the country.

The median price for a one-bedroom rental — though the second highest of the cities on the list — was listed at $1,360 a month, about half of what it could cost in New York, the article stated.

"It's one of the major cities that doesn't make feel like you need to 'escape,' a genuine rarity," according to Thrillist. "This owes to the pace, two steps slower than New York and DC, though the waterfront bar scene doesn't hurt."
