In 2016, Baltimore was a top-ranking city in several favorable lists. It was listed as one of the best places for creatives, a prime city for viewing Christmas lights, and one of last year's hottest travel destinations. We're even said to have one of the best city parks in the U.S.

2017, however, is starting off with a less positive, more pesky superlative.

Atlanta-based pest control company Orkin released this year's list of "Top 50 Bed Bug Cities" on Tuesday, and Baltimore came in at No. 1, the first time it's been featured in the top five in the past six years.

The company based the rankings on where it performed the most bed bug treatments from December 2015 to November 2016. Charm City moved up a total of nine spots since last year.

It must be a regional thing, because nearby Washington came in at No. 2.
