Baltimore musician Sean K. Preston never expected to see his guitar, "June," again after she was stolen from his van during a show in January. But the lead singer of Sean K. Preston & The Loaded Pistols got the 1968 Harmony Archtone back last week after a tip from a fan led to her return. When Preston played a show at Mick O'Shea's Irish Pub & Restaurant in January, his guitar was the only piece of equipment he left in his van during the performance. He was parked about a block from the Mount Vernon bar, he said, and went to retrieve the van after the show ended, only to find it had been broken into."I walked around the corner, and the back window was smashed out," he said. "They had thrown a piece of concrete through the window."The vandals took the guitar and his leather jacket, he said. The rest of the equipment was inside the bar.Sean K. Preston's favorite guitar was returned this week after it was stolen in Januray. Here, his band, Sean K. Preston and the Loaded Pistols, plays at Oysterfest 2013 while attendees dance.Months went by until Thursday, when a friend found a guitar case marked with Preston's name in an alley not far from where the van was parked. The case was open, but June was inside."She's my favorite guitar," Preston said. "It was definitely weird to see her again."A Facebook video of Preston opening the case and seeing June for the first time since she was taken had more than 14,000 views as of Sunday night."I'm a little bit beside myself that so many people have taken notice and everything," he said.Preston bought the guitar in 2007 for $70 at an East Baltimore flea market, he said. He estimates she has since played "hundreds and hundreds of shows."But being out in the elements for 10 months has taken its toll on the instrument."The whole top of the guitar is warped from rain, and a lot of the wood is swollen and distorted from just taking on so much water," Preston said. "I'm going to start getting professional opinions on whether it's cost effective or just in vain to try to repair her."
