Longtime Baltimore newscaster Richard Sher has a new gig. Starting April 8, Sher will host a weekly trivia contest at Horseshoe Casino Baltimore.
The game show-style contest will be called People Are Winning, a nod to "People Are Talking," the long-running morning show that Sher hosted on WJZ-TV, first with Oprah Winfrey and later with Beverly Burke.
The live event will be held every Wednesday at 1 p.m. in 14Forty, the casino's multi-story centerpiece entertainment venue. Three contestants, selected at random, will take the stage to answer general interest questions about everything from sports, movies and television to famous people, landmarks and historical events, according to a news release from the casino.
Prizes include meals at the Horseshoe's restaurants and Atlantic City trips. Audience members will have a shot at scooping up some of the prizes when the contestants whiff on the questions.
Admission to People Are Winning is free. In order to be eligible to participate in the show and win prizes, contestants have to be registered in the casino's customer loyalty program. For more information go to caesars.com/horseshoe-baltimore.
Sher left WJZ-TV in 2008 after 33 years with the station. He currently moderates the public affairs program "Square Off" on WMAR-TV.
