John Waters, Baltimore's favorite (and most happily degenerate) filmmaker, will receive an honorary degree next month during graduation ceremonies at the Maryland Institute College of Art.
Waters, the director of "Pink Flamingos," "Hairspray," "A Dirty Shame" and numerous other shot-in-Baltimore classics, will receive an honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degree during the May 16 undergraduate commencement ceremonies.
Also receiving an honorary degree will be arts philanthropist Ruby Lerner, founding executive director of Creative Capital, an organization that supports innovative artists through funding, counsel and career development services.
Lerner will deliver the commencement ceremony's keynote remarks.
Educator and publisher Johanna Drucker, artist Hans Haacke and artist and educator Pepon Osorio will be awarded honorary Doctor of Fine Arts degrees at the school's graduate commencement, also set for May 16.
Osorio will deliver the graduate student ceremony's keynote remarks.
