An evening in Camden Yards for a cause: a fundraiser for the LGBT community

Baseball fans are invited to the second annual LGBT Orioles Night Out, an evening at Oriole Park at Camden Yards for a cause, on June 30 at 7 p.m.

The event serves as a fundraiser for the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Community Center of Baltimore and Central Maryland, with $5 of the $23 ticket costs going toward the GLCCB.

Joe Palumbo, the event's organizer, said he had informally organized similar nights out in the past with friends, but made it official last year after seeing an opportunity to raise money for a worthy group.

"It's good for major league sports to recognize the community and know that the LGBT community supports them as well," Palumbo said. "Plus, the GLCCB could always use the money. They deserve the fundraiser."

Last year, the stadium gave the group a section of 100 tickets, resulting in a $500 donation to the GLCCB. This year, the section expanded to 250 tickets and stadium officials are willing to include more tickets, Palumbo said, should the group expand to larger numbers.

At last check, there were just under 200 already purchased, he said. The group will be seated in section 72, in the left field corner.

Ultimately, Palumbo would like the outing to raise both money and awareness for the community, he said, adding that in future years, he hopes the event will continue to grow.

Tickets are available for purchase at orioles.com/tix/nightout.
