Craft of the Month: Lovely leftover tree

Lovely leftover tree craft (Meghan Leimenstoll)

With every kid's craft project comes a handful of leftover supplies that haunt your cupboards and drawers. Just like throwing together a meal made of leftovers from the fridge, this project will clean out your craft containers and bring a pop of color to your child's bedroom or playroom.

Materials:

Crayola Slick Stix Super Smooth Crayons or craft paint

Leftover supplies (buttons, feathers, pearl beads, wooden beads, pom-poms, etc.)

Craft glue

Directions:

1 Draw or paint the trunk and limbs of a tree. Don't get hung up on perfection; your handiwork is about to be covered in color and texture.

2 Apply big, thick glue dots to the limbs of the tree. (I used my finger to apply.) You could also have your child dip each bead into a pool of glue. Again, don't worry too much about application; the craft glue will dry clear and you won't notice it on the finished product.

3 Have fun layering the beads and supplies all over the tree. With this project, "more is more," so encourage your child to layer and load up on color!
