WJZ news anchor Jessica Kartalija departing Baltimore for Philadelphia

Baltimore news anchor Jessica Kartalija has announced she is departing WJZ for the CBS affiliate in Philadelphia.

In a statement, Kartalija reflected on her move to Baltimore’s Canton neighborhood 12 years ago — and revealed that she met her now husband while covering a story.

In an email, Kartalija told The Sun more about that segment. “I met Brian when I was covering a story on Black Friday shopping at Towson Towne Mall! He was getting his watch fixed (and I thought he must be nuts! Or clearly, he was not a shopper). We ran into each other a year later and the rest is history.”

As for what the move to the City of Brotherly Love means for her eating habits, she said, “Yes, this means I will be having more cheesesteaks than crab cakes … but will be back in town often as we have friends and family here.”

The news came as a surprise to many viewers, who had been commenting on Kartalija’s public Facebook profile for days asking why she wasn’t on TV.

“The viewers at WJZ are really incredible people,” Kartalija said, “and I’m so honored that they welcomed me into their homes every night.”
