This season of "The Bachelorette" kicks off back at the Bachelor Mansion, where I feel like we just left, and right away are very dramatically reminded that last season ended when JoJo had her heart broken by Ben after he'd told her he loved her and then chose another woman.
And then we are shown a good five minutes of JoJo getting wet on a beach in a bikini, because "The Bachelorette."
As JoJo pulls up to the mansion for her second journey to find love on national television, she claims she needs some advice in advance of the suitors arriving. So of course Kaitlyn Bristow ("Bachelorette" Season 11), who is still engaged to Shawn B. despite how I feel about it; Ali Fedotowsky ("Bachelorette" Season 6) who became engaged to Roberto on her season's finale and is now engaged to Kevin Manno and expecting her first child with him; and Desiree Hartsock ("Bachelorette" Season 9), who is married and expecting with Chris Siegfried, who "won" her season, are here to "help."
Their incredible words of wisdom include, "Kiss someone on the first night" and "Say whatever is honest and true," which is advice anyone in the world could have offered, so I'm not sure what they're doing here. By the looks on their faces, neither are they.
When JoJo asks each former Bachelorette what her regrets from the show are, the camera immediately zooms into Kaitlyn and everyone laughs, because in case it was possible for you to forget, Kaitlyn had sex with Nick Viall on their Fantasy Suite date and then picked Shawn B. over him. Ali and Desiree tell JoJo that she shouldn't make her decisions based on who is the best looking, despite Ali having just confessed that she picked Roberto because he was hot.
As this riveting conversation ends, Kaitlyn proposes a toast by saying, "Here's to your future husband, the drunk guy from night one, the kinda weird ones and all of the dates you're about to go on," which is a pretty accurate toast for how this show always goes.
The new season of The Bachelorette starts on May 23, so in preparation, I decided to “meet” this seasons’ hopeful contestants by reading their official bios on the ABC website. First and foremost, like 70 percent of these men are from LA. When I initially noticed that, I was disappointed that I didn’t head to the casino casting call when it was here but then I realized that these are men from LA at a casting call to be on reality television. So basically the opposite of what I am looking for in a lover. Second, each contestant is delightfully ridiculous and in advance of my forthcoming TV Lust recaps, I give you my “first impression” (get it?) of each of the newest men competing for true love on national television. — By Abby Draper, For The Baltimore Sun (Craig Sjodin / ABC)
