New show alert: MTV's 'Death Valley'

Poking zombies: All in a good day's work for the "Death Valley" crew. (MTV)

This is how I imagined the meeting at MTV went when they first discussed "Death Valley"

Producer 1: Hey, you know how zombies are popular?

Producer 2: Oh yeah. And vampires. I hear they're big.

Producer 3: And werewolves. We already have a show about a teenage werewolf, but why not another?

Producer 4: Oh my God, you guys. Why not put them all in the same show!

Producers 1, 2 and 3: Genius!

MTV's latest attempt at scripted fare is the horror-comedy "Death Valley," premiering at 10:30 p.m. Aug. 29. It's set in California's San Fernando Valley, not in the desert. See what they did there? It's the characters that are dead, not the vegetation.

Premise: There's an outbreak of zombies, vampires and werewolves (at the same time? Ouch.) so a special unit, the Undead Task Force (UTF) is formed by the LAPD to regulate things. And a camera crew is following them for a documentary.

The cast includes Bryan Callen, the police captain who informs us that zombies "multiply faster than Kardashians"; comedian Charlie Sanders, who plays a police officer; and Tania Raymonde ("Lost"), also an officer.

Check it out below. What do you think? Monster overload?
