'How to Get Away With Murder' recap: Annalise is on a whole new high

After a three-month hiatus, "How to Get Away with Murder" finally returned to grace our televisions and mess with our minds.

A lot can happen in three months. Viola Davis won another Screen Actors Guild award for her role as Annalise Keating to add to her growing collection. Liza Weil (Bonnie) will be returning to Stars Hallow to reprise her role of Paris Geller in the "Gilmore Girls" revival. But luckily for us, there hasn't been a three-month time lapse in the "HTGAWM" world — only a two-week jump following the shooting of Annalise.

OK, I lied a little. We initially pick up right where we left off with Wes standing over Annalise as she shouts "Christophe," bleeding out. Laurel runs into the room to see what Wes has done and Michaela isn't far behind. Michaela automatically assumes it was Wes who has shot Annalise, but it's Laurel who takes the blame, citing her little gun experience for her botched shot. Wes decides to take the gun to dump it into the pool, and they leave Annalise in the mansion to bleed out.

Flash forward two weeks to Annalise returning from the hospital with Bonnie's assistance. I have to admit that I am a bit confused as to why Bonnie is still helping Annalise when Annalise hates Bonnie as much as she probably hates cheap vodka.

Speaking of vodka, Annalise is out because Bonnie took it all from her house. But no worries, Annalise has painkillers to get high on. The baby we kept seeing in the promos? Yup, not real, just a hallucination from too many painkillers. It also doesn't help that no one is at the house helping Annalise. Bonnie left to go to the temporary office at Frank's apartment to meet up with the rest of the Keating five.

Laurel has been keeping an eye on Wes as a favor to Annalise. Wes is miserable, whiny and won't get out of bed because Rebecca is dead. But let's be honest, when is Wes not miserable? He just whines about everything all the time. Laurel convinces Wes to get out of bed by telling him everything will work out. Newsflash Laurel: Nothing ever works out in this show.

Catherine Hapstall has a hearing coming up to see if she will go on trial for the shooting of Annalise and Emily Sinclair. Catherine was found in the woods after the shooting with blood on her, thanks to Frank. Back at the Keating house, Annalise is freaking out because the hearing is the following day. However, Bonnie determines she is not mentally capable of testifying, so everyone works together to write a statement for the court.

The night before the hearing, we find Asher mourning his father's death at Connor and Oliver's place. He complains that the "Flashdance" soundtrack is on and wishes it was Jay Z. I'm not going to lie — I wish we were gifted with Asher drunk dancing to "Flashdance … What a Feeling."

Now it's hearing day and the group runs into Caleb Hapstall, who has been defending his sister to the press. We get a quick flashback to see that Michaela lied to Caleb the night of the shooting, saying Catherine was safe and OK. Obviously, Caleb is pissed, but Michaela is trying to be sweet to him and wants to be there for him. He just has one thing to say to her: "You all belong in hell." Damn, that hurt. I liked these two together, but once again Annalise ruins a relationship.

In the hearing, the judge determines the statement is not good enough, and if the prosecution wants Annalise as a witness, she will need to testify. Laurel quickly sneaks to the lobby to call Annalise and next thing we know, Annalise is limping her way up to the stand practically still in her pajamas.

Off her meds, Annalise believes she can be a strong witness. Well, she is wrong. Her stitches rupture so she is once again in a hazy mental state. Annalise is unable to stick to one story and is all over the place. She is even seeing the random baby again. Finally Annalise admits Catherine didn't do it, except 'it' is a different crime. Annalise says Catherine did not kill her parents and says Catherine told her that when Annalise was her lawyer.

Catherine's attorney wants Annalise's testimony to be tossed out and the court is sent into a recess. Outside, Caleb meets with Annalise in her car. She tells him that creepy Philip killed their parents and he has set Catherine up. Annalise wants Catherine to admit to shooting her, only after Phillip drugged Catherine. At first, Catherine is hesitant, but Caleb informs her that it doesn't matter what's right — it matters what a jury will believe. Catherine makes this confession and will only serve a five-year sentence in exchange for her testimony against Philip. Even while bleeding out, Annalise can still manipulate anyone.

That night, everyone but Wes gathers at Frank's apartment to celebrate the court victory. Laurel is freaking out a bit because Wes isn't answering his phone. Frank tries to calm her down but Laurel objects, saying the whole reason they are in this mess is because no one called Asher after his father died. Frank does get her to calm down though, partly due to how good he looked in that black tank.

Meanwhile, Wes breaks into Annalise's house looking for any information on Christophe. Annalise finds Wes in her bed with a bottle of pills next to him. For a split second, we think he has committed suicide, but nope he is just miserable again. He sits up, telling Annalise he knows why his mom committed suicide — to make it all stop. He now wants to make it all stop, too, but not before he gets answers from Annalise. He has figured out that she knows his mother, and we are sent to a flashback 10 years ago.

A pregnant (?!?) Annalise joins a woman, presumably Wes's mother, on a park bench and they watch Wes play with other children. That's all we get and we are back in Annalise's bedroom. Wes lunges at Annalise for an answer and she takes it as threat. She yells at Wes, "I think you ruined me!" He runs downstairs and Annalise decides to chase after him, but she can't because of her injuries. When she gets downstairs, she hallucinates about the baby again.

Now we are left with questions that don't revolve around a murder for once. If Annalise was pregnant, what happened to her baby? What happened to Wes's mother? With only five episodes left in the season, we will find out soon — but it's a really cute baby, so I hope Annalise keeps hallucinating him. Next week, it appears the Keating five turn on Annalise — but it might be too little too late.
