Week 2 of NBC's "American Ninja Warrior" national finals in Las Vegas aired Monday night, featuring two "ninjas" with Maryland ties who once set records for the competition. Yet to many fans' dismay, both fell short.
Olney resident Geoff Britten, who became the first "American Ninja War" finisher in history last year, was eliminated. Britten was just a few seconds shy of winning $1 million in last year's finals, but this year, he fell during the first obstacle of the final's first stage — the Snake Run — according to the Esquire Network.
Fans on Twitter were shocked.
Britten did not immediately respond to calls and emails from The Baltimore Sun.
Kacy Catanzaro, the Towson University alumna who became the first woman to complete a city finals course in 2014, also took to the stage. She returned to the finals as a "wild card" after falling during this year's Oklahoma City qualifying round.
In the finals, however, "Might Kacy" slipped again. She fell on the second obstacle — the Propeller Bar — which sent her spiraling into the water below.
Catanzaro did not immediately respond to emails from The Sun.
Last week, during the first night of the finals, Jessie Graff, sporting a green superhero-like outfit, surpassed Catanzaro's record, becoming the first woman to complete Stage 1 of the "American Ninja Warrior" national finals.
