"Game of Thrones" will end Season 6 in typically epic fashion, with a supersized season finale that will stretch to 69 minutes, making it the longest episode of HBO's fantasy drama ever. The extended Season 6 finale will air June 26.
Previous installments this season have clocked in anywhere between 50 minutes and 59, with the penultimate episode, airing June 19, scheduled to be an hour in length.
In addition to being longer than normal, the episodes also have meaningful titles, which were revealed via listings on HBO.com. Episode 9 is "Battle of the Bastards," which seems to hint at the long-overdue confrontation between Jon Snow (Kit Harington) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon) for control of Winterfell and the North as a whole. The finale is titled "The Winds of Winter," in homage to George R. R. Martin's next novel in the "Song of Ice and Fire" series, which was originally intended to be released prior to this season.
Both episodes are directed by Miguel Sapochnik, who helmed episodes 7 and 8 of last season, "The Gift" and the epic "Hardhome," which saw Jon Snow and the wildlings come face to face with the chilling Night King and his army of wights.
