Whether your character of choice was Princess Peach, Bowser or Yoshi, it’s time to put all those hours spent racing down Rainbow Road to good use.
Beer and “Mario Kart 64” are colliding at a couple Baltimore-area bars soon.
Later today, Peabody Heights Brewery (401 E. 30th St.) will host its first “Mario Kart” tournament at its Abell brewery from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. MaGerk’s Pub and Grill in Bel Air (120 S. Bond St.) will host its own, unrelated tournament with Union Craft Brewing on Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.
The level of competition remains to be seen, as it’s first-come, first-served for those interested in playing. But both events emphasize a casual atmosphere of discounted beers and a trip down memory lane — in vehicles capable of shooting shells at opponents, of course.
At Peabody, they’ll have two Nintendo 64 consoles playing “Mario Kart 64” at the same time. They will accept up to 64 participants, with the winner receiving a trophy and a $30 gift card to the brewery.
MaGerk’s will play “Mario Kart 64” on Nintendo 64 in its fireplace room. There will be giveaways and prizes, and $4 Union specials.
And if you miss out, don’t worry — Peabody plans to host more “Mario Kart” tournaments in the future.
