'Wire' alum Tristan Wilds plays Adele's love interest in 'Hello' video

Love interest in Adele's new video got his start on "The Wire."

Let’s play Fictional Friday.

Imagine an alternate world where “The Wire” character Michael Lee dropped his quest to become the next Omar Little, grew up to leave the Baltimore streets behind and somehow made it to London to date the Grammy-winning star Adele. Then, for whatever reason, the tryst failed, and the two lovers go their separate ways.

Now, amid forlorn reflection, Adele is ready to sing about the regret and complicated emotions tangled between the two in an unsurprisingly gorgeous black-and-white music video.

OK, this is either wishful, bizarre fan-fiction or merely an excuse to say Tristan Wilds — actor from “The Wire” and “90210” and R&B singer under the name Mack Wilds — stars in the anticipated video for Adele’s new single, “Hello,” which debuted Friday. The clip, which you can watch at the top of the post, shows flashbacks of Wilds interacting with Adele in happier times, and the ambiguous demise of their characters’ relationship.

Now, a dose of reality: On Thursday, the U.K.-based singer announced “25,” her third album and first since 2011’s “21,” would be released on Nov. 20. “21” made Adele a star, and earned the singer the Grammy Award for Album of the Year in 2012.

Last month, Wilds released the song “Bonnie & Clyde,” which can be streamed here.
