Toni Braxton biopic earns high ratings

Millions tuned in for Toni Braxton biopic on Lifetime.

Lifetime's Toni Braxton biopic, "Unbreak My Heart," had a strong premiere on Saturday, with 3.6 million viewers, according to a press release.

"Unbreak," which is based on the Severn native's memoir of the same name, earned the highest rating for an original movie with adults ages 25-54, women 25-54 and women 18-49 since "Whitney," the January 2015 biopic on Whitney Houston, according to Variety. ("Whitney" had 4.5 million viewers.)

The Nielsen Fast Cable Ratings reported the data.

Braxton served as executive producer and narrator of the movie. Baltimore native Lex Scott-Davis stars as Braxton, a singer and mother who found R&B success -- and drama, both personal and professional -- in the 1990s and again more recently.

A special titled "Beyond the Headlines: Toni Braxton" followed the movie and drew 2.8 million viewers.

The Sun recently spoke to Braxton and Scott-Davis about "Unbreak."
