Chain sports bar Boston's to open in Little Italy in 2017

Coming soon to Little Italy: The pizza-focused sports bar chain Boston's.

Boston’s Restaurant & Sports Bar, a pizza-focused chain originally from Canada that has two locations in Maryland, will open its first Baltimore location in 2017, chief operating officer Troy Cooper confirmed via email this week.

The restaurant plans to open in the former Velleggia’s Italian Seafood Restaurant, at the corner of Pratt and Albermarle streets in Little Italy, in “early to mid-2017,” according to Cooper.

With a menu of more than 80 items, including pizza, pasta, burgers and other bar fare, Boston’s has locations in Abingdon and Charles County. Franchisee Keith Asante, who opened the Abingdon location in November, will operate the Little Italy restaurant, Cooper wrote.

“The restaurant will bring 60 jobs to the area,” Cooper wrote in a statement to The Baltimore Sun. “We look forward to sharing additional details regarding this location once they are finalized.”

In August 2014, Asante signed a five-store development agreement “for growth in the Baltimore area,” according to a Boston's publicist. Asante will be the franchisee of all five stores in the agreement.

Velleggia’s, opened by Enrico and Maria Velleggia in 1937, closed in October 2008.

Boston’s has more than 350 locations in Canada and more than 40 in the U.S. and Mexico, according to its website.
