Having won nearly all the best picture accolades of late -- the Golden Globes, Screen Actors Guild, Directors Guild, Writers Guild, probably even the Iranian Film Society's (although I can't swear to that one) -- a win by "Argo" here is starting to resemble a sure thing, which makes director Ben Affleck's omission from the Best Director nominations incomprehensible. This could mark the first time since "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1990 that the director of a Best Picture Oscar winner wasn't even nominated.
